Im going to be so mad if they screw it up. Silent Hill 2 is my favorite out of the four.

I was wondering, is the movie good for someone who hasn't played the game? I got pissed at the controls in SH1, miserable hit detection in SH2, and the demo for SH4 wasn't fun, so I never got into any SH. I heard the movie was quite boring for those who never played the game.

It won't make nearly as much sense.

my mom had to call me and ask what happened after she rented it, and my friend wouldn't even watch it through to the end. so... maybe?

A lot of people didnt understand the ending except me and a few others. I was hoping there would be an alternate ending when the dvd was release. BIG disappointment. With the "special features" they had for the dvd is basically saying 'Yeah, theres going to be a special edition in a year from now'.

I heard SH was more of a yak-feast. Like people would stand there explaining stuff because people did not know what was going on instead of doing things. It's also long right? Like well over 2 hours? I can't imagine a horror flick keeping the suspense much past 2 hours (most stop at around 90 min).

The movie was OK aside... 1) Chris and Officer Gucci repeating the same scene ever and ever "I'm off to find my wife!" "I can't let you!" Repeat again! and again... and again... 2) The "Ooooh! Ahrrrrrrr! Burrrrrrn da Wiiiiiitch! Ayeeee!" part (more or less, the whole second part of the movie... ) 3) The dance of the evil nurses It's like a Thriller parody!

hmm, i think i read over at gamespot that a second film has been confirmed and there was some crazy rumor that neil gaiman of sandman fame was going to be co-writting it (sadly, that last part got shot down in flames).

The dancing nurses were the best part of the movie. They weren't scary, they were hillarious! They pretty much just danced and eventually hurt themselves. everything after that point was like the director got carried away with gore part, forgetting that a lot of Silent Hill meant you were scared even if nothing was around. It didn't have to be as blatant as walking in blood and that horrible barbed wire scene. That entire 'revenge' thing just knocked down my enjoyment of the movie down more than a few notches.
I hope the sequel has a new director that doesn't suddenly decide' let's just kill em!'. I'm kind of worried now that Silent Hill 2 will have lost a bit of its trademark with Pyramid Head, because he's just randomly been in the first one. Still scared the heck out of me though. That crazy skin hating Pyramid Head.

mmm, i agree with you, naked fish. i think the director got way too carried away with the barbed wire. that scence just lasted for too long and totally flopped as a climax... though i suppose if you look at the end of the game boss battles for the silent hill series, they do tend to be a bit more in your face than the rest of the game (heck, the third instalment had an aborted god going all fire and brimstone on your ass). still, they deffinatly could have worked it a little better in the film.
p.s. your avatar takes disturbing to a whole new levle.

I really enjoyed it. I went in with low expectations, I mean, game-to-movie transition here, and I heard REALLY bad stuff about it, but hey, I had nothing else to do, so, why not?
Alessa's story was really sad, in my opinion, and the little girl who played her/Sharon...Was AMAZING. She really did a good job for her age. [Better than her preformance on Kingdom Hospital, I say. XD]
There were some ridiculous parts, like how all of Chris's scenes were pretty much..The same thing over and over. XDDD The nurse thing WAS funny..xD

I'm debating whether or not to watch it. I'm not really into horrors that use gore to scare. They turn me off so much using that tactic that no matter how good the story is I will write it off as B-grade slasher. Plus, I will never play the game cuz the only copy I had I sold already. Unless they fix the crappy controls, I never will bother to try playing Silent Hill. And unless they fix the hit detection (because you actually HAVE to fight more in SH) I'll never bother to finish SH2.
So, should I watch it?
(On the game to movie note, yeah, they mostly suck. I hope the Fatal Frame movie turns out good, but I'm betting against it. They are using a Japanese that grew up not in Japan, so we'll see how well she acts Japanese in a completely Japanese story, if the movie ever gets done.)

Your not missing anything if you dont see it. The only thing I liked was the music and CGI.

there isn't any gore until the last few minutes, bucketknight.
i thought the nurses were pretty sexy, and wish they had been in more of the movie. thats still my biggest complaint: not enough monsters, you only got to see certain ones once, and they were all in their own specific areas. they should've been wandering the halls and streets.
