The problems weren't really with the voices. Some took some getting used to-only a few were actually bad. I know Tomitake's voice actor.XD

Then what were the major problems with it?

The third season has finally ended ( OVA) if your stingy. I thought it was very good. The last episode was the best though.

The last episode was hilarious-Takano was especially funny.XD
The problems with the English release of Higurashi are numerous:
-No extras at all, not even on the box set DVDs. After volume one, most of the releases were advertised as having extras, only for buyers to get their copies and learn otherwise.
-Rika's voice is just plain bad.
-They brightened up the opening scene of the series, which just ruins the first arc. Also, they forgot to fix the coloring error in episode 2.
-Subs are big and neon-colored.
-Back of each DVD contains a summary of the overall content and summaries for each episode. These are very spoilerish. Also, the Geneon release of volume two has the back for volume one, and they made no efforts to fix this mistake.
-The Limited Edition box is misleading and trampy. It's pink and white, which contrasts with the orange, red, and black of the DVDs. I'm pretty sure it doesn't even FIT all the DVDs. And the girls in the revealing outfits makes people think it's some kind of hentai, especially with the Sonozaki twins practically making out on it, with one shaded to look like she'd not wearing any underwear.
-Most of the mini-posters in the DVDs are bad as well. Three are just the pics from the aforementioned box, and the others are of the Japanese covers. That would be fine, but I don't really want a picture of the twins undressing and fondling one another.
There's probably even more I'm not thinking of.@_@
