Rule of Rose: Another day, another place...
It was a cold day in the december of 1931, and a thick fog had settled over the small town, obsecuring everything from view.
And it was on this cold day, that our unfortunate tale begins.
Trudging through the biting cold of the snow, the unfortunate boy, or Ben as he had come to be known, dragged a suitcase in tow.
“It is snowing, as hard as ever.” the unfortunate boy said simply, stopping at a crossroad to hold his hand out and catch the snow.
Sighing, the unfortunate boy sat down on his suitcase.
“I can never escape this town.” he continued in a melancholy tone.
He stared at the train tracks which were covered in a large layer of snow, and Ben, the ever unfortunate boy found another of his escape roots was cruelly cut off.
But lo and behold, a beacon of hope came in the form of the sound of the bells at the railroad crossing, clanging horrendously as if to get his attention and before he even knew it, there was the distinct sound of metal clanging against metal, furious at the treatment it was receiving.
The unfortunate boy saw a black train round the bend and he stood up, staring in wonder.
All of a sudden, the train came to a grinding halt in front of the crossroad and the barricades lifted themselves.
The door to the train opened and out came a young girl, dressed elegantly in a white dress and shawl. A red ribbon adorned her soft brown hair and she had curious green eyes.
“Not here... not here...” the girl whispered, stepping off the tracks and looking around.
The unfortunate boy looked at her curiously and then tried to speak to her.
“Excuse me...” he began, but to no avail for she ignored him, more focused on what she seemed to be looking for.
When she came to the conclusion that there was nothing to be done, she looked up from the road only to find herself face to face with the unfortunate boy.
“What are you doing here...?” he asked slowly.
The girl's brown eyes lit up with happiness and she reached for his black scarf, wound tightly around his neck as if to choke him.
“This will do fine!”
Taking it from him, she smiled reassuringly and then jogged back to the train.
“Hey! Wait!” the unfortunate boy yelled, following the girl.
The girl boarded the train and the unforunate boy gave chase, not allowing for one of the little things he had, to be taken from him.
Boarding the train, the door suddenly closed behind him and the unfortunate boy gave a start, turning back and trying to open the door.
But alas, the door would not open and he had lost sight of the girl with the curious green eyes.
Yes, he was once again all alone in the world and there was no one to tell him that he was a good boy or that he was bad and there wasn't anyone to tease him mercilessly and no one to tell him that it would be alright.
Suddenly, there was a shuffling behind him and the unfortunate boy jumped, and he slowly turned and came to face a young boy with bored brown eyes.
It was with these same eyes that the bored boy regarded the unfortunate boy.
“C-could you help me...?” the unfortunate boy asked pathetically, his eyes pleading and sad.
But this was in vain for the callous Prince turned away from the unfortunate boy with a swoosh, disapearing into the dark of the train.
“Won't anybody help me?” the unfortunate boy whispered helplessly.
“I could help you.” Came a voice from the darkness. Glass shimmered in the darkness and the unfortunate boy saw another boy, a shrewd and calculating boy with thick glasses and a note book and pen.
“You could?” the unfortunate boy asked, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
“Yes. It is all for the sake of progress.” Light reflected off his glasses and it was reminiscent of cat's eyes in darkness.
“Thank you...” the unfortunate boy replied, greatful for the help.
The other suddenly turned his head to the side and paused, as if sensing something unsavory to him.
The shrewd prince turned back to the unfortunate boy and smirked slightly, pushing his glasses up to the bridge of his nose.
“Is there something wrong...?” the unfortunate boy asked tentatively, slowly approaching the Prince.
“Follow the stray dog.” the Prince replied.
“Excuse me?” the unfortunate boy asked but before he knew it, the shrewd Prince had already turned his back to and was going to leave.
“You have to follow the stray dog, to find what you're looking for.”
Upon leaving, another entered.
He was a man with a simple hat. He was carrying a shovel (how peculiar the unfortunate boy thought) and was sauntering through.
He stopped when he noticed the unfortunate boy and he tipped his hat to him.
“Top of the morning to you young one.” the man said.
“Oh um... yes... I suppose so.” the unfortunate boy replied, scratching his head awkwardly.
“You lost?”
“Yes, I am sir.”
“Well then, you can come along with me. I can help you find what you're looking for.” the man offered.
“Oh yes please, it would be greatly appreciated!” the unfortunate boy smiled, happy that someone finally assisted him.
“Right this way...” the man gestured.
“I'm Ben, by the way...” the unfortunate boy introduced himself.
“And I'm Gregory. It's unusual for a young man such as yourself to be on a train like this. Rather handsome you are too.”
“Well, I wandered on here by mistake. A girl took my scarf...”
“A girl? Hmmm...” Gregory looked thoughtful and then turned back to the unfortunate boy.
“No matter.”
“Oh, would you have any idea what a stray dog is?”
“A stray dog?”
