Jennifer was probably seen as a "problem child" who just created unnecessary issues, whether it was her fault or not. She's still a problem child. Look at all the time she's making us waste here because of her horrid memory! (secretly i think we owe her however) *cracks whip* dun-duh-duh-dunnnnn - CHARGE!

"- Jen was the only one who even had an opportunity to get on an airship (a sign of luxury which none of the kids get to experience)"
This is not a possible reason, as none of the kids knew she had been on the airship. Even she did not know. She lost her memories after the accident.
"- Jen gets a PRETTY GREEN dress (at least this point will get her on Meg's and Amanda's bad side [if you don't believe me LOOK at their clothes])"
This is just her memory, though. Originally, as a child. She did not have her green dress. Hers was pretty much as plain as their's.
"- Jen lived with the candy man in his gingerbread house (remember, before Stray Dog, the kids liked Gregors cuz he gave them candy). She also obviously was well liked by Gregors."
I honestly don't think they knew she lived with him prior to that, as the cops might have been called on him for the whole ordeal.

From reading this thread, it looks like there's tons of reasons to hate Jennifer, here are my thoughts:
1) The only ones who didn't hate Jennifer are Gregory, Wendy (before Brown's incident) and Clara. Since Clara isn't in the Aristocrat Club, she doesn't have any motives to hate or like Jennifer. Gregory obviously dotes on her as his "Joshua" during her stay at his house.
2) I agree with the view that it was Wendy's idea to tell the other orphans to hate Jennifer so that she can have all of Jennifer's attention (like when she got humiliated or bullied, Wendy would be the only one whom she could confide in) Brown's presence only makes Wendy more envious and devising the games to scapegoat Jennifer and intensify the hatred of the orphans towards her. Even though it wouldn't divert Jennifer's love towards Brown.
3) Other reasons for the orphans hating Jennifer are quite valid as mentioned in this thread, and I don't think Jennifer has forgotten about the airship incident after she was brought to the orphanage, or else why would she always be shunning the airship games. It's only after the orphanage massacre that dealt a heavy blow on her that she forgot everything. The orphans must have always called her "filthy" because of her rank and that she always washes their dirty laundry. And the term "filthy" sounds despicable and lowly to the orphans, so maybe that's why their hatred towards Jennifer is so pervasive.
4) Hoffman: He must have hated her for always being late (as she was tied up to the pillar whenever she woke up in her room) The fact that he frequently scolded her means she has behavourial problems or perhaps the other orphans have been scapegoating her. As for Jennifer discovering his sexual misconduct towards Clara and Diana, there is a possibility Jennifer might be spreading rumours about it and leading him into trouble with the authorities. But it could have been her wild imagination because she didn't like Hoffman for all the scoldings and punishments. Maybe Jennifer thinks she doesn't deserve all of this because the other oprhans might have played her out that got her into trouble. Anyway, it puzzles me as to why Hoffman blamed Jennifer for his exit out of the orphanage, as mentioned in his 11 Nov entry. It's in November that Wendy has disappeared, and Martha wrote several letters to the police requesting for investigation. So if there's anything that would involve Hoffman with the authorities, the possibility of him sexually abusing the children could be true, or else why would he be running away without packing his stuff.
5) Martha: She always called Jennifer "filthy" during her cleaning duties, and her hatred might be attributed to Jennifer causing more dirty mess than before she was in the orphanage. As to what kind of mess she created, I'm still not sure. Or was it because of Jennifer staying inside the filth room, washing other children's clothes and frequent name-calling ("Filthy Jennifer") by the orphans that caused Martha to feel disgusted? Since Martha and Hoffman frequently discuss about matters of the orphanage, she must have, at one point, agreed with Hoffman's opinion of Jennifer as a "wretched" child, one who has disciplinary problems.

Clara never really seems too fond of her either.
"and I don't think Jennifer has forgotten about the airship incident after she was brought to the orphanage, or else why would she always be shunning the airship games."
She did. If you examine her luggage in the "Once Upon a Time..." chapter, she will tell you that. Otherwise, they could have found any living relatives she had, so she would have told someone. The not wanting to play airship was subconscious, like in Gregory's house, how she feels when she sees the toy airship topple.
"As for Jennifer discovering his sexual misconduct towards Clara and Diana, there is a possibility"
But she hints that never even actually happened.
"It's in November that Wendy has disappeared,"
Wendy did not disappear, she was just seen with Gregory a lot.

I always thought that Wendy told the rest of the girls to be cruel to Jen so that she'd be her only friend. This would be why everyone is mean to her, because it is Jen's warped memory of what happened.
Martha and Hoff probably disliked her because the other children likely blamed everything that happened on Jen. They likely even went as far as to purposly stage things to get Jen into trouble.
While not as long and drawn-out as the other theories... I think mine makes sense.
And if worse comes to worse... maybe it's because she's such a wimp.

If you were Hoffman, why would you want to run away suddenly just because you hate Jennifer? It seems to coincide with the time Wendy "disappeared" to train Gregory like a dog.

Again, Wendy did NOT disappear. She snuck off from time to time, but she always came back the same day. And she definately had to have started training him a lot earlier.
When they throw the papers at her, they seem to hate her because they think she stole Joshua and yet got rewarded for it.

When they throw the papers at her, they seem to hate her because they think she stole Joshua and yet got rewarded for it. I shouldn't use the word "disappear", like you said Wendy was hanging around outside the orphanage training Gregory, which has caught Martha's attention and her overzealous attempt to alert the police. As to when she started training Gregory, I was guessing after Jennifer had broken up with her? Wendy couldn't have been training Gregory right after Jennifer's departure from his house, unless she is readying him to massacre the entire orphanage. I'm thinking Hoffman must be blaming Jennifer for causing Wendy to leave the orphanage at certain times and arousing suspicious behaviour which might eventually lead to him and other orphans (Clara, Diana especially) being interrogated by the police thanks to Martha. "When they throw the papers at her, they seem to hate her because they think she stole Joshua and yet got rewarded for it." If the reward was Wendy's idea, why did they draw her entire body with red crayons? Sounds like punishment to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, thanks.

The other girls believed that Jennifer had stolen it. Thus, they were upset when she got a reward for doing something bad and refused to accept her.
When it comes to Wendy's "training", I really think it had to take months to make him like that. (>_<)

When it comes to Wendy's "training", I really think it had to take months to make him like that. (>_<) Yes, you are right. The police's letter to Martha was in October, so Martha's observations of Gregory's "Stray Dog" behaviour could be in October or earlier. I wonder what is Wendy's motive for pysching Gregory to be a killer, maybe she wanted that myth to stay true to her words? or maybe she has plans to eliminate the entire orphanage and be alone with Jennifer. Wendy has Gregory's gun in her possession all along, so maybe after she's finished with him, she may want to kill him (as in forcing Gregory to commit suicide). Or maybe she wants to adopt a new "pet" after getting tired of Sir Peter the rabbit and tie in with Jennifer's preference of adopting a dog. As for Hoffman, I still can't figure out why he left. An accumulation of frustrations caused by Jennifer? Or did Clara willingly take over his duties of taking care of the kids? She eventually left, after all. Or did sth happen to her (and Martha?)

I think Hoffman left just because Jennifer really tried him, and he realized her was not cut out for this job and ran for it.
As for the gun, I truly believe Wendy took it back then for his own protection. She knew Jennifer was worried about him killing himself, so she took it to reassure her.
Why Wendy did it, might just be that she wanted to make sure she had proof if her words were ever questioned.
