Or was Wendy over-possessive towards Jennifer? Wendy did go out to all lengths to rescue Jennifer, but only in return for keeping the oath. Was it because of loneliness that Wendy had forged a love forever relationship instead of a sisterly friendship? So when Wendy first set her sights on Jennifer it had to be the way she wanted, especially when she initially addressed Jennifer as a boy? Besides when Jennifer first entered the orphange, Wendy doesn't seem to care (other than having Jennifer to greet/play with her every morning) whether Jennifer suffered any abuse/humiliation from the other children, even in the Butterfly game in which she had a rat shoved to her face. (And that was before she discovered Brown that created a turning point.) Isn't Wendy supposed to protect Jennifer from the other children as mentioned in her letter "I'm always by your side". So why wasn't Wendy by her side whenever she got bullied by the children? Being behind-the-scenes for Wendy would only make Jennifer more fearful and lonely, and less confident in maintaining their relationship.

Please be careful not to put spoilers in the title and mark in it that there are spoilers as I have done for you.^^
I believe that Wendy truly did love Jennifer. As much as I dislike Wendy, I've been her shoes before-just not to the same extent. She was very lonely and spent nearly all her time in the sickroom. Jennifer was her only true friend and companion. She was so desperate not to lose her or her love that she clung to her. She did not want to share her with anyone. Since Jennifer was all that she had, she wanted to be all Jennifer had. If the other orphans made Jennifer sad, it was Wendy Jen would cry to. If they would not be her friend, she could spend most of her time with Wendy instead of them. Also, she could not really stop most of the bullying. She was a pretty frail girl, and as the princess, she could not against her own rules.

I loved Jennifer above all else! It was that filthy dog that I loathed!

I agree with what both princess' said. Wendy did love Jennifer. But she also needed her as much. Need which also means love for herself. Which did Wendy love more? Herself or Jennifer? I cannot answer for I do not know what love means anymore. Maybe it is a question that Princess Wendy could answer.

I believe she loved Jennifer more~
She really tried to be understanding, but it was Jennifer who broke their oath!

But Wendy shouldn't have gone to such extremes to make Jennifer love her, that would not be understanding of Jennifer's feelings at all, as it would make Jennifer more frightened and lonely. It appears Brown was the only one who could cheer up Jennifer.

Wendy might have been lonely and felt betrayed, but it was her actions that caused Jennifer to become lonely and unhappy, by making all the other orphanage residents dislike her and taking her away from Gregory.

Why did everyone leave Wendy alone at the orphanage, when she was the leader of the Aristocrat Club? Is it because of her sickness? Or their fear of her?

Both. She was in charge. You don't mess with the person in charge. And since she was sick, she was often confined to the sick room.

But if Wendy was able to go all the way to visiit Gregory and befriend Jennifer, how come she could not manage to become friends with one of the other orphans?

Possibly because they had their own lives. She wanted someone who would be completely devoted to her. All the other girls at the orphanage were always pretty busy, it seemed, or possibly she did not get along with some of them.

I believe that Wendy truly loved Jennifer, at least in the beginning. But then loneliness and insecurity poisoned it, and it turned into possessiveness, then finally, obsession. Actually, I think those are two of the preeminent themes of Rule of Rose: loneliness and obsession.

I've always thought it was more the posessiveness and Brown that poisoned it. Jennifer stopped meeting with Wendy in order to see Brown.

Yes, that's true. But I think there had to be a great deal of fear and insecurity inside of Wendy to make her react the way she did to "losing" Jennifer. So, Brown was definitely the catalyst or direct cause for what happened. But if Brown had never come along, it probably would have been something else.
Unless there had been more time for Wendy to mature and grow as a person, I suppose.

Wendy was a little girl, and an orphaned one no less; it makes perfect sense that she'd cling to Jennifer, a fellow orphan who easily fit into the "knight in shining armor" role that Wendy's girlish heart wanted to see filled. Jennifer was everything Wendy wanted, and when Wendy, who obviously has control issues, lost her power over Jennifer because Jennifer was giving her attention to Brown.
I think Wendy perceived their bond as being utterly exclusive and couldn't handle it when Jennifer got herself a pet, because it made her feel helpless, and probably hurt her self-image, which was probably suffering anyway.
