When he closed his eyes and pulled the trigger, he already knew death is the only option. The gun was the reminder that Joshua was no longer alive.

I don't know about death being the only option...It might have been rough, but I'd like to think he could have made a happy life for himself.

Now that would've been a 'happily ever after'.
I believe that he could've made a better life for himself too, but the realization of the loss of Joshua in combination with all the childrens' deaths on hands was too much to take.

Yet another reason Wendy must be punished!>_< He could've had Jennifer as a companion, if nothing else.

Yes, I do think that Jennifer was perfectly capable of taking care of him. ^^

I was thinking more like undoing the damage Wendy did.

True.
If anything, she could've done it. Just think how Wendy abused his already fragile mind. ;^;

There's also some sad Gregory dialogue that was unused. You hear him reading a story and crying while doing so.;-;

I'd like him a lot more if he hadn't killed Wendy. She did not deserve that!

I beg to differ. While it was sad she died, she brought the whole thing on herself. Gregory is more of a victim than her!

Any guesses as to what Gregory's past was like? Judging from his stature and brute strength, it doesn't seem like Gregory had been a farmer all along. He could be someone famous, look at the books that have his name written on. Could he be in the military, maybe a pilot? since he likes to buy toys for Joshua that are related to the military, those toy soldier, flight-related toys and stuff. maybe he wants his son to grow up like him? And why is he staying in a remote spot in the forest? Is he trying to escape from his past? Something that may have caused his wife to leave him?

I don't know...Farming must have been an even harder task back in those days, as they probably did not have a lot of the stuff we do now, like tractors and such. He would most likely have had to do all the work alone, by hand. And after doing this for who knows how many years, his stature and brute strength-*.*-aren't that strange.
I really can't see Gregory as a member of the military or someone famous. If he was either, I think it would have been mentioned in the article about his death
As for living in the middle of nowhere, I think he is either hiding away from the world or it is just the most convenient place to farm.
Due to what he says about there being no such thing as everlasting love in the last chapter, it would seem his wife either died or left him. He mentions people will always lie and use people, so it does seem possible that she might have abandoned him and Joshua.;-;

His wife leaving him is already a blow to him, as you can see him over-indulging in cigarettes and alcohol while writing his own ideal stories in his own confinement. Feeling betrayed, he even removed the telephone wire to prevent any contact with the outside world. Joshua's death only pulls him deeper into insanity.
