Any theories on why Martha was beaten by those imps?

Kind of a revenge for abandoning the orphans and leaving them to do all the cleaning?

There's something strange about Martha.
I mean, about the fact that she left the orphanage.
I think that she was killed, maybe by the Stray Dog. Her letter (24 November 1930), is incomplete, unfinished, and I wonder that she was 'stopped' by someone who didn't want police to be informed.
Anyway, I think that her brutal death in the game is the punishment for being a witch. A witch without a broom, killed by too many 'brooms'. XD

But in the game, she does not actually die. You find her alive after being beaten. And the abrupt end to her letter would suggest she was stopped in the midst of writing it, which means her murder would have most likely taken place indoors if it occured. That seems impossible, given all the orphans and the size of Stray Dog-someone would have noticed something.
Maybe the orphans themselves hit her with brooms?

But ... I still think that the children are not the culprits. Only Wendy or Stray Dog could be the culprits, because they have an incontestable motive. The other orphans are of course very cruel kids, but I think they are not killers. Maybe pet-killers, nothing more. Wendy, on the other side, would have never let anyone come in her way, expecially in that situation. Stray Dog .. well, he was a killer since June 1929, and he was obedient to Wendy. Besides, I remember that there is a backdoor in the kitchen, just near Martha's room. Anyone from outside could have entered and killed her silently, without anyone knowing.

Things to remember: We are not sure Martha was murdered-Jennifer mentions her actually leaving and does not say she just disappeared. There are threads here about Gregory and the missing kids, and our current evidence supports that he was NOT a killer back then.

Well, it was just a speculation, I think that her last letter is a too big clue to be ignored
And, would you please link me this evidence about Gregory and the missing kids ? I would like to read if anything can break my simple theory about those murders. (Oh, I don't think that the removal of the 'japanese cutscene' is an important evidence. A lot of clues about the kidnappings are still in the game ... and all of them refers to Gregory, I'm afraid ..)

There are numerous threads in both the Theories and Characters sections, so why not join in what remains the biggest debate to this day.^^

When Jennifer said "adults are so selfish", is it possible that Martha had left the orphange for her own safety? it seems unlikely that she had witnessed the murder, the scene where Martha got beaten up could be just her imagination, more like revengeful thinking in that Jennifer wished she was dead.

Possibly Martha's beating was Jennifer punishing Martha, and making Clara and Hoffman into suffering monsters she had to kill also was. While all three of them left the orphanage and abandoned the kids, Martha was the only one who actually tried to warn someone of what was going on. Maybe that was why she was allowed to survive.

She could have just stopped or been interrupted in the middle or writing it. She seems to have been an awfully busy woman, especially after Hoffman left. And she was probably weary of sending letters to the police that were ignored. And maybe a part of her mind tried to convince herself that everything was fine, just as the officer assured her, so she just gave it up. Why bother?
