Why do you think the orphanage took Jennifer in? I mean, did she and Wendy tell them some kind of lie? Why didn't Hoffman call the authorities when a child mysteriously showed up at his orphanage? Post your theories here!

It was mentioned that in the P.A. system, Hoffman never calls her name, as if he never treats her as part of the orphanage family. It could mean Hoffman accepted her unwillingly or out of sympathy.

Hmm... I assumed he never called Jennifer on the PA simply because he called favorites... and he dispised her.
Considering the time period, I think maybe with things being in such disarray they may not have asked many questions.
They could have also just simply said that her parents had died and she was now on the streets or something.

Even so, just seems like the authorities should have been alerted. What's wrong with the adults in this game?!

I agree about the autorities. Maybe they did contact them, but just like with Martha's letters, they never really bothered to investigate to the extent they should have?
