It is said that Gregory rescued Jennifer from the airship when in sank, but how?

Well, I think when the airship crashed, Jennifer might still be in the sea but still alive, when she eventually reached the shore, she could be in the forest where Greg's house is nearby, so Greg must have discovered her while farming or going to the market. This explains why in the storybook he was dragging Jennifer to his home.

I thought it was more like whisking away than dragging, but considering his strength, he probably just carried her. The shore thing just does not seem right to me, given how many people were on that thing. Seems he would have found others or that there would have been at least a few other survivors. It's really quite a mystery.@.@

I'm still baffled as to how she was rescued, but I'm welcome to wild deductions. Anybody else can come up with good guesses?

One I'd had, was that after Joshua died, Gregory decided to bury him at sea. That way, he could be with the airship he had loved. Assuming the airship had crashed moments prior, he found Jennifer after "burying" Joshua. Another theory is that he took the sick Joshua to find his beloved airship or something, and the boy died while they were at sea. They were the only things I could think of too explain Gregory being anywhere he would have been able to find Jennifer.

Regarding how she survived the crash, I noticed the drawing on the Little Princess storybook showing her being flung out from the impact as the airship crashed headfirst, strangely it also shows an umbrella in mid-air. Wonder what that illustrates? BTW did anyone notice any signs of a boat in or around Gregory's house that would reinforce the theory that he's capable of travelling out to sea?

I certainly didn't spot anything.

There must be an answer somewhere! We simply have to find it!

I think the clues lie in Joshua's love for everything to do with flying. His room has cloud wallpaper and is filled with toy flying machines and pilots. An article about the airship disappearance is pinned up on the wall in the basement. The calender has a picture of the airship on it. A theory shown in Fairady's story, is that Joshua was on the airship, which would explain Gregory being where it might have crashed-looking for his son, but instead finding Jennifer. While this would explain many things, it does not fit for various reasons.
One, how could Gregory afford to get his son on that airship? All signs hint that they are very poor. There is the possibility of having a relative who could get him on for free, though.
Two, Gregory seems to be a little out of it by the time he has taken in Jennifer. Finding her and believing her to be Joshua just does not seem like enough to effect him like that, as opposed to Joshua dying prior.
Third, what about the diary? That hints Joshua is still alive and with Gregory at the time the airship has already vanished.

Since the airship is a rather slow-moving transportation, Gregory could have easily tracked it down. Perhaps at the time of Joshua's death, Gregory was carrying Joshua's body and following the airship, in the hope that he could "see" the airship travel all the way to its end destination. Somehow, when the airship crashed, he could have abandoned/buried Joshua and found Jennifer who could have been some sort of "replacement" for Joshua from Gregory's perspective.

My original theory has always been that he was going to bury Joshua at sea, where the airship had crashed, because he knew how much his son had wanted to go on it and felt guilty for not being able to grant his dying wish. But after letting Joshua into the water, he finds Jennifer alive and thinks Joshua has miraculously come back to him.
