"You'll be sorry" is such an overused empty threat, that it's sort of chilling that Wendy makes good on it.
And I agree with philweasel, being able to tell good stories (especially scary ones) do wonders for your personal power.

I guess being the smartest and most manipulative makes Wendy the leader after all. Her authority stems from the way she asserts her myths/promises/statements. She may be looking sick on the outside but inside lies her strength to carry out her tasks that deserves the attention/respect/fear of the other children especially through the monthly games she devised.
