So Wendy. Wendy was Joshua. In the dream of course. So in real life, was Wendy actually dressing like Joshua and wandering around terrorizing Jennifer? Or in retrospect, was she doing so in the dream as well? Wasn't she sickly? Because when I read the ending of the game before finishing it [yeah, go on, shoot me, I'm a spoiler fiend ] I kind of assumed that the Joshua you see from the very beginning of the game is just a subconcious character created by Jennifer who was always secretly the Bear Prince, and not actually Wendy running around with a wig. So what is it really

Technically, the "Joshua" throughout the game is a subconscious thing-as all the things she encounters probably are. Wendy started dressing as Joshua some time after she got Jennifer to come to the orphanage, so that she could manipulate Gregory and make him into the Stray Dog she used to terrify the other orphans into obeying her-the boss you fight in the chapter of the same name. It was him she truly tormented in that disguise, pretending to be a lost love one of his and mentally and physically abusing him. Jennifer first saw Wendy in this disguise when she arrived with Stray Dog during the massacre and made him attack her, but she did not know who it was until the moment she took off the wig.
As Jennifer struggles through her jumbled memories, a mysterious boy is trying to make her remember her promise and why she was a bad girl-for breaking it and loving Brown. Since she still does not remember the extent of Wendy's evil deeds at this point, she does not remember that this boy is actually Wendy in disguise and labels him as Joshua, due to his clothing and him calling himself the "Prince" when he speaks to her. This is similiar to how she substitues Wendy the Princess of the Red Rose with her doll of the same name that she lost in the airship crash.

So -- let me just see if I got it straight -- Wendy DID dress up like Joshua however the scenes with Joshua littered throughout the game were imaginary only?
Wow, I didn't know the thing about the doll. Where's that mentioned in the game?

Not ALL of the scenes with Joshua where imaginary. The ones during the Stray Dog chapter really happened.
The thing about the doll is never clearly stated. She is the "Princess of the Red Rose" mentioned in the "Little Princess" storybook. Apparently, she was a doll that meant a great deal to Jennifer but was lost when the airship crashed. For more info, check out the FAQ and character page for the Rose Princess on my website.^^
