Alright I mentioned this in a topic before, and I don't have a whole lot of proof being as I don't have alot of free time to go through looking for evidence but how's this sound? (Plus I figured I'd make some contribution to the actual ror section.)
You notice how the first imp you meet is crying like Olivia? How when the orphans go behind the platform the imps come out?
Do you think it's possible that Orphans and the Imps are the same people, and Jennifers imagination is just playing tricks on her? Kind of like the monsters in Silent Hill?

I don't think so. Judging by the entry in Hoffman's diary, he created them to scare children into behaving and doing their chores. The kids thought they were real, and most likely attributed them to the disappearances, mainly of Martha. When Jennifer woke up tied in The Funeral, I think she assumed that the imps had swept her away, which is why we see the orphans leave and them appear.

There does seem to be a lot of contradicting evidence when you think about it, though...

That is true, much like the whole thing with Gregory and the missing children. It's like they decided one thing, but then switched to another without removing the evidence of their first decision.

This game really shouldn't have been released as early as it was. They should have taken the time to decide what they really wanted to do with it. Instead of leaving us with so many questions.

I know that Hoffman did tell the children about the imps so that he could scare them into cleaning. Jennifer later talks about how the orphans dressed up with bags over their heads for Halloween and it scared her (same bags in the early scenes of the orphanage right before Jennifer is put into the coffin.) If you look at the imps, I think that they could be in Jennifer's memory as a mixture of the "bogeymen" that would come get you if you don't clean and the orphans with the bags over their heads that scared Jennifer.
