I don't think he was molesting her. I see it more as a teacher/favorite student relationship. Didn't it say in his diary that she was working hard so he took her to bed (because she was tired).

I don't think he would have blatantly written "and then I molested her as she slept" in his diary. Hoffman seemed smarter than that.

There's the possibility that he molested Clara and Diana. You'd be surprised at what some video game characters will write down for you to find! The idea isn't that they are stupid, more of a way of storytelling. Jennifer says in January that Hoffman couldn't live up to society's expectations. Thats one clue there. I think Hoffman wanted the perfect students, but once Jennifer came there was some disorder.

considering how much ror left up for the player to discuss/decide, i think hoffman's interactions with clara could go either way. i personally feel that hoffman was molesting clara. she was the oldest one there, he doted on her, and his wife (martha was his wife, right?) was a filthy, ill-tempered witch. clara and hoffman seemed to have a very intimate relationship, with her staying up late to help hoffman, hoffman 'gently taking her to bed,' hoffman practically laying on top of her in the mermaid room while he bound her feet together. plus the way hoffman pawed all over diana and leapt upon jennifer in the first boss battle, these all seem to be indications that hoffman wasn't exactly JUST an innocent father-figure running an orphanage.

Martha was NOT Hoffman's wife.
And remember, her memories were twisted by her own childhood imagination. Martha could not have been as bad as she had remembered, or else, why would she show such concern for the orphans' safety in her letters to the police. Clara also treats the teen Jennifer coldly, but Jennifer later remembers her as a fairly nice, caring girl who was only scary around the adults.

thanks for clarifying, princessjennifer.
i didn't really see the letters as concerned, though. i felt she was just being a nosy old woman.

I saw them as concern. And Jennifer does seem to remember Martha as being a good housekeeper in the January chapter. It's possible that the kids called her a witch whenever she yelled at them, though.

Clara also treats the teen Jennifer coldly, but Jennifer later remembers her as a fairly nice, caring girl who was only scary around the adults. But Clara was afraid of both Martha and Hoffman. If you look at the tray in the sick bay in Once Upon A Time, Jennifer remembers Clara as just another student "except when she spoke to Mr. Hoffman or Martha. Then, she looked scary." I believe the word there should have been scared. But regardless, Clara saw Martha in the same light as Hoffman. On another note, I do feel that Martha was concerned, whether for fear of the children/Wendy, or just the fact that, as she said, it was strange. Really, if you saw what she saw, would you consider yourself nosy if you told someone?

Hey, since we are going into theories, why did Clara disappear? If I remember right, Clara was the last to disappear. Why? There was never any mention that Clara knew about Stray Dog, nor was there any mention that Hoffman had anything to do with it? Was she chased out by the dominatrix Diana? Did Stray Dog eat her? Was she so repulsed by Amanda she had to leave? Did Meg's spinning chair throw her beyond the horizion? Who knows? (No, really, who knows, cuz I would like to know.)

I believe Clara left with Martha to go looking for Mr Hoffman.

Hmm, you have proof or any backing to that? (I'm asking not cuz I think you're stupid, but I really would like to know what happened)

SPOILERS! . . . . . If you examined the painting of Mr. Hoffman, Jennifer states, "One day, Mr. Hoffman suddenly disappeared. Clara and Miss Martha soon followed, leaving me and the other orphans alone..." This happened around November 1930 if I recalled correctly. I guess it goes to show how irresponsible they were. They left all the children by themselves with no one to care for them......poor kids.
