I'm not very good at asserting authority over kids who are taller than me, sadly, but I see what you mean.
Meg strikes me as the kind of kid that gets sent to the principal's office because she drew herself as Hitler for the "What do you want to be when you grow up?" project in class, despite having the best grades.
I don't know that Jenny ever really broke a promise--"everlasting true love I am yours" doesn't really specifically say "And no dogs! You are mine and only mine" though I guess it implies it.

Diana's not tall. I thought she was till I saw her next to Jen. Diana's like a nuclear weapon, scary when out of control, but quite useful in your hands. Meg is more like the crazy kids who draws about killing everyone at school and snaps after some guy asks Diana out and Diana agrees so she can milk the guy for everything but Meg takes it as there's no reason left to live. Wendy perceived the promise was broken, and that's enough for me (cuz the consequence sure as hell can be seen). And it's not like I purposely broke my promise too, I was reassigned. But kids take betrayal (perceived or real) poorly, especially someone who already lost a lot like an orphan.

Aw, that almost makes me feel for Wendy. And you seem to have a lot of experience with kids, which I respect greatly (my mother is a teacher, so I guess some of it is genetic).
Eh, I'm pretty short though. Diana would just have to clear 5' and she'd have the jump on me. In the orphanage picture she's almost as tall as Martha, who I would assume would be about 5'3 or 5'4.
Meg laments to her "friends only" livejournal while calling Wendy up for tips on out of control vengeance.
Actually, come to think of it, Wendy's reaction to Brown is a (rather exaggerated) common reaction girls have when a close friend first starts dating--the friend feels betrayed and forgotten and usually doesn't like the boyfriend much unless he's already a friend. Then the passive aggressive punishment starts. I don't know how it is for guys, but being a little girl is full of stress, pain, and anxiety.

Then the passive aggressive punishment starts. I don't know how it is for guys, but being a little girl is full of stress, pain, and anxiety. I grew up kinda in Clara's position. I've been raising kids since I was 10, been advising parents on childrearing since I was 15, worked in an at-risk/autistic preschool, teaching K-8, being the 'parent' at doctors visits, etc. Hell, I've helped raise at least 10 kids for 1 month or younger to whatever they are now (I can only remember 10 right now). So yeah, I've been around kids a bit. I've even had to deal with a girl who had her first period and didn't know what it was or anything about menstruation (That was NOT fun). As for the betrayal, boys feel it, but they don't show it as openly. They do their usual petulant defiance they do for everything that bothers them. For Diana's height, she couldn't have been that tall, look at her next to Jen. Jen's not that tall of a girl. She (Jen) can't be more than 5'5". And I love girls like Diana. You can always find ways to make them a helper. It's nice to shove work onto them.

Bliss is just odd. It's got a coffin and imps and a (probably) Jen hung up. Maybe it represents Jennifer's desire to commit suicide throughout the game? As mentioned in several theories, the imps may represent Jennifer's guilt, or a driving force towards suicide. The probable hung-up Jennifer could recognize her suicide, and the coffin being in there is an obvious lean towards that too. "Bliss" is could be what Jennifer hopes for if she escapes her memories through suicide . . Or it could even mean a sort of happy ending in some part of her twisted mind, since it would mean that she gets a release from the pain, and she saves Brown from death. Maybe the cells mean certain parts of Jennifer's mind, dreams, or hopes in some obscure way. I'm sure I'll come up with another theory if I think about it more.

Quite a bit morbid to think Bliss refers to Jen's desire for release, but I'll buy it (if I said I like it people would think I'm suicidal myself ;D) And while I'm not sure Jen was suicidal, Jen was very resigned to whatever fate would come to her (VERY evident when she just looks up at the sky in dismay in front of the grave when the girls are pouring water on her).

Rooms of Jenny's mind...
Deep. I like this reading though, because I agree totally with the idea that Jennifer is suicidal (and the belief that Bliss would mean a release from all this crap she's going through).
It's ok, bucketknight. I'm going to go ahead and say I like it, let everyone think I'm suicidal!
Sorry. Bit punchy.

'rooms of jenny's mind' reminds me of a song. walking through the rooms in my head i came across your image you looked at me with that sweet smile and said something they won't let me repeat
we hurt the ones we love the most its a subtle form of complimenti never considered 'room of bliss' being a nicer way of saying 'gas chambers,' but i too like it. a tendency torward self-destruction makes jennifer that much more sympathetic and easier to relate to. which also reminds me of a song... (i'm like an ipod with legs, sorry) i'm sitting on a bus to hell, and i'm not feeling very well and theres one or two places i know i'd rather be i'm naked to the seat wrapped up in a bloodstained sheet and theres some kind of naked lunatic next to me well thats when i see the wolfman appearin' at the top of the stairs fiddlin' around with a ticket machine and askin' if theres anymore faresprince joshua is the lycanthrope on the bus.

Hmm, you know how people think that the kind of music you listen to reflects who you are . . . Well, you like iPods, so that already makes you a off-kilter ;D

awwww, shucks, bucketknight. you're just saying that. *scuffs foot on ground*
so you're saying that just because i listen to bands called scary b*tches, circle of dead children, nuclear rabbit, acid bath, cult of the psychic fetus, bozo porno circus, and killing miranda that some people might get the wrong idea about me? i swear i'm secretly a puppy dog made of marshmallows and daffodils. you just have to cross the monster infested poison moat, scale the spiked walls, dodge the three headed dogs with the scorpion tails and the lazer eyes, and dig through several layers of bloated maggots to get to it, is all.
........
hershey kiss? anyone?

Actually from what I remember about what kind of healthy functional individuals Roman and Greek gods were, you're quite normal. In fact, well adjusted and healthy. And actually, I put more stock into your iPod than the music to decide on your insanity ;D

I think I might've heard of cult of the psychic fetus.
Don't despair. I'm loosely part of a band called Fetal Alchohol Syndrome. (Yet no ipod, which still makes me sane by Bk's standards)

Don't get me started on FAS though, especially since we spent so much time on it in class and I've seen the results too often of FAS.

I'm not condoning it, but when you're doing a metal cover band you need some sort of eyebrow raising name.
ON TOPIC ON TOPIC ON TOPIC
Would anyone be concerned about the kids spending time in the basement (even if only for the Cell of Pleasure) considering the damp climate of England and the poor constitution of characters like Wendy?

If I were around a crazy group of girls like them, I'd let them stay in the basement as long as they want. Anything to stay away from me ;D In all seriousness, Martha's not going to hunt for them all day since she's got enough work. And after classes Hoffman's more than likely to go and read a book in his office. And with such a large area around the orphanage, you'd never know that they were in the basement or out in the fields/forest. And really, Hoffman probably prescribes to my above statement, considering how much he loves Jen.
