If there is more of an explanation to the orphans being abandoned? Hoffman left them in the care of Martha and Clara, who evetually just left one day without even bothering to tell anyone? I mean, why didn't they inform someone the orphans were all alone?

Maybe somebody was supposed to come in and take over, and just didn't show up?

Maybe they were afraid of Gregory frequently stalking them at the gate and behaving irrationally (so they wanna flee for safety?), and the orphans going out of control, they might even be afraid of confronting the kids or hate them for what they are doing. It's like an anarchy (opposite of democracy), with everything falling apart like a domino effect, look at the untidy classroom for instance. Nobody teaches/disciplines the kids anymore, so disorder is the norm. It's all Hoffman's fault, he's very selfish for leaving the orphanage (just because he couldn't stand Jennifer's filthiness and incorrigibleness) and thinking that the responsibility should go to Clara and Martha.

Still, at least he left knowing someone was there to look after the orphans. I can't see Gregory stalking people really, and if something like that had happened, I it would have been told or at least hinted at.

I noticed Gregory in the Stray Dog cutscene where he stands outside the gate, always observing the orphanage, and Martha's letter that seems to hint her observing Gregory's movements easily near the orphanage. Martha must have also told Clara about his strange behaviour.

That cutscene is a little weird, but it seems to take place after the adults have all left. I can't see Martha worrying the already frightened Clara with something like that. She apparently never even bothered to do anything herself to stop Gregory from hanging around the orphanage. I doubt it was a problem before Wendy started her "training". Seems unlikely Martha could have easily seen this "training", as I'd think it was not being done where the other kids could see or anyone else. I think Martha must have followed Wendy one day when she left to go see Gregory and watched what happened.

Well...Martha's letters to the police end ubruptly, so maybe something happened to her? Perhaps Gregory came under Wendy's orders and killed the adults too?

People have suggested that before, but I don't think it is possible. It would be pretty hard for him to go around unnoticed, considering the amount of people living on the orphanage grounds. Even if he managed to get in unnoticed, it seems unlikely the task could be completed quietly-there would be a struggle and screams, not to mention the other violent noises. I do suppose they could have been overpowered and killed after leaving the orphanage grounds, but...
Well, it seems highly unlikely anything like that happened to Mr. Hoffman, since he states in his diary his intentions to leave.
Clara and Martha could be considered more of a mystery. I plan to search for more clues about what happened to the two of them. In the final chapter, she mentions them leaving, but she never hints at any foul play.

I think maybe Martha and Clara were scared, so they went away and the kids were all pretty young and stuff so they probably didn't know who to lik...go to, to get help, and they thought that their princess would take care of them anyway, cuz they had all the food and stuff they would need at the orphanage

It does seem unlikely...
In the game, we see Martha getting "swept away" by the imps. This may very well indicate that the orphans don't really know what happened to her. She just up and disappeared one day, along with Clara, so they assumed that she got swept away by the imps for not keeping the place clean enough. If anything more than that happened, Jennifer and the other kids probably don't know anything about it.
Clara, on the other hand, is not shown being swept away by the imps. Perhaps she was still very tidy when it came to her assigned areas-the sick bay and sickroom,-so they imagined something different must have happened to her. She became a beautiful mermaid princess like she always wanted and swam away.

If there is more of an explanation to the orphans being abandoned? Hoffman left them in the care of Martha and Clara, who eventually just left one day without even bothering to tell anyone? I mean, why didn't they inform someone the orphans were all alone? Well, remember we see the entire story from Jennifer's point of view. Maybe she never knew that kind of thing. Hoffman didn't like her. Neither did Martha or Clara, judging by the interaction we have with these two during the game. So I think it's pretty sensible to assume that they wouldn't tell her their reasons for leaving the orphanage...
